DeShaun Jordan enters his first season as associate head coach for the Illinois State Track & Field program after earning promotion following the 2023-24 season. Jordan has served in this role since May 2024.
Before his elevation to associate head coach, Jordan served as an assistant coach for the Redbirds since 2020. Under Jordan’s guidance, the Illinois State sprinters, hurdles, and relay teams have reached new heights.
During his tenure, he has guided student-athletes to 20 Missouri Valley Conference individual titles, 32 All-Valley Performances, 15 NCAA West Regional Qualifiers, and four school records. In 2024, Jordan was awarded the MVC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
Before joining the staff as an assistant coach, Jordan served as a volunteer and graduate assistant from 2018 to 2020. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Jordan assisted with team travel operations, planning and execution of home meets, and on-campus recruiting.
Jordan has been a member of the Illinois State track & field team since 2013 when he started his career as a sprinter for the Redbirds. Jordan was a member of the 2018Â Indoor Track & Field Missouri Conference Championship team that ended a 19-year title drought for the Redbirds.Â
Jordan was also a two-time All-Valley honoree, an NCAA West Prelims Qualifier, and a member of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference title-winning 4x100m relay team. Jordan was also a member of the fourth fastest 4x100m relay squad in Illinois State program history (as of January 2025).
Jordan graduated from Illinois State with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 2018 and a Master of Science in Recreational Management in 2020. He is a USA Track & Field Level II certified coach.
