2022-23 (Illinois State)
Played in 13 games during the season with two starts, averaging 5.5 minutes per game. Scored 16 points with 14 rebounds on the season and had three steals and three blocked shots. Scored four points in two different games during the season, at home inside Horton Field House on December 10 against SIUE and on February 4 at Belmont. Had a season-high three rebounds on January 21 at home against Valparaiso.
2021-22 (Illinois State)
Played in 32 games with five starts during the season. Averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, while making 55.3 percent (42-of-76) of his shots. Had 17 blocked shots, 15 assists, and eight steals on the season. Scored a season-high 10 points on February 5 against Southern Illinois. Scored at least five points seven times. Pulled down a season-high six rebounds on December 21 against UTSA. Twice had three blocked shots in a game - against Missouri State on December 1 and against Loyola Chicago on February 21. Had one game with two steals (January 16 against Bradley).
PRIOR TO ILLINOIS STATE (Des Moines Area Community College)
In two seasons at Des Moines Area Community College, Schmitt scored 723 points for an average of 12.3 points per game, while grabbing 410 rebounds (6.9 per game) and 2.3 blocked shots per game – 136 over his two seasons. During his second season, en route to helping DMACC win a NJCAA Division II National Title, he was one of two players on his squad named to the All-Region First Team. He had 69 blocked shots over 26 games, which was the second-most in the country, while his average of 2.7 blocked shots per game was fourth highest. He finished 17th in the country in total rebounds (181) and ninth in defensive rebounds (139). He also averaged 11.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, making 53.1 percent of his shots from the field, and 68.6 percent from the charity stripe. Had 19 games in which he scored in double-figures, including three games of 20+ points, with his season-high coming against Indian Hills with 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Also had six games of double-digit rebounds and had 11 rebounds in three of his last four games – including in the National Championship game. Schmitt nearly had a triple-double in the semifinal win over Iowa Lakes as he had a dozen points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocked shots. The championship game saw him score 13 points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots – his third double-double of the national tournament which helped him earn All-Tournament Team honors. As a freshman, Schmitt and the No. 5 ranked Bears were riding a seven-game win streak into the NJCAA Men's Basketball Championship before it was canceled due to the pandemic. He was named to the All-Region second team, in addition to earning Third Team NJCAA All-Academic Team honors and First Team Academic All-Region accolades. In the Region XI Tournament, he also earned a spot on the All-Tournament squad. He blocked 67 shots as a freshman, 14th-most in the country, while his 59.8 field goal percentage ranked 32nd in the country. In 33 games during his first season he averaged 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He had 22 games of double-digit scoring as a freshman, including a career-high 28 points at Southwestern on February 26 where he made 12-of-16 shots from the field and all four of his free throw tries. He closed his season strong, with three 20+ point scoring games over his last four contests of the year. He had seven games of double-digit rebounds – all seven resulted in double-doubles.
