Racquel Cabrera joined the Redbirds staff in November 2017 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer providing medical care to the Women’s Basketball team and was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in July 2022. Administrative duties consist of new staff orientation & staff handbook management, physical/new student paperwork coordination, & care of the Redbird Athletic Training Room Facility. 

Prior to Illinois State University, Cabrera worked at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA from 2014-2017 providing care to the Women’s Volleyball, Men’s & Women’s Swimming, and Spring Football teams with administrative duties including coordinating summer camp coverage, OSHA Coordination including organizing athletic department staff CPR/AED Certifications, maintaining BOC CEU provider status, and maintaining athletic training staff handbooks & new staff orientation. 

Cabrera, a NW Indiana native, graduated from Ball State University in 2012 with a BS degree in Athletic Training and received her graduate degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 2014 with a MS in Athletic Training. While a Graduate Assistant at California University of Pennsylvania, Cabrera provided care for the Softball and Baseball teams. 

Current certifications include National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification, American Heart Association CPR/AED Certification, NASM Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist, Graston IASTM M1 Certification, Postural Restoration Institute – Myokinematic Restoration Certification and Functional Integrated Dry Needling Pain Management Certification. Cabrera maintains licensure to practice within the state of Illinois with an active NPI number and is a member of NATA & GLATA. She currently resides in Bloomington with her partner Jason and her two cats Izzy & Willow.
