Liisa Vehvilainen is in her first season as an assistant coach for the women's tennis program.

She comes to Illinois State following three seasons spent competing at Michigan State, where she went 40-34 overall in singles play in dual match action, logging a .541 winning percentage as a Spartan. She amassed a 32-39 doubles record throughout her three years in East Lansing, posting an overall combined record of 72-74 in her career as a Spartan, obtaining a .493 win percentage. During her freshman season, she posted a 12-7 overall singles record and a 10-5 mark in doubles play while at North Texas before transferring to Michigan State.

A native of Turku, Finland, Vehvilainen was a two-time Finnish National Player of the Year, a three-time Finnish National Champion, and she earned two Women's Tennis Association Top 1000 victories.
