Andy Newton joined the Illinois State Athletics Department staff as Director of Personnel in July of 2023.  

In his current role, Andy serves as the primary contact for all human resource matters within the Athletics Department and oversees compliance with all University/State personnel regulations which includes matters relating to all full-time staff, coaches, graduate assistants, extra help employees, student workers, and other various positions. He is also the primary contact for game contracts for each sport program and all departmental IT matters.

Prior to coming to Illinois State, Andy spent two years as the Director of Compliance for Bradley University. While at Bradley, he served as the institution’s only compliance official, overseeing all Athletic Department’s compliance matters. He got his start in compliance as an Assistant Coordinator of Compliance for the NCAA where he worked for 4 years. Andy has been serving as a member of the NCAA Eligibility Center Waivers Committee since 2023.

Andy received his doctorate of juris prudence at IU McKinney School of Law in 2015 and is a licensed attorney in the state of Indiana. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University majoring in behavioral neuroscience and history.

A native of Lafayette, IN, Andy currently resides in Normal, Illinois with his wife, Kate Newton and their foster children.
