Drew Compton started his position of Assistant Athletic Performance Coach in September of 2023. At Illinois State, Compton assists in all aspects of programming and training for Football as well as being the lead strength coach for Men's and Women's Golf. Prior to Illinois State, Compton was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Lamar University, where he started, in 2021, as a Graduate Assistant Strength Coach.
At Lamar, Compton led the training of Softball and Men's Tennis, while assisting with Track and Field, Baseball, and Football. In 2022, he also spent time as the interim Head Strength Coach for the Lamar Football team. Before his time at Lamar, Compton was a Strength and Conditioning intern for the University of Tennessee Football team where he assisted with all aspects of training and weight room operations. Also, Compton spent the Fall of 2019 with DePaul University as an intern where he assisted with all aspects of training and weight room operations for Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Tennis, Track and Field, Cross Country, and Basketball as well as Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Golf, and Softball.
Compton played Safety and Outside Linebacker for Upper Iowa University from 2017 to 2021, where he graduated in May of 2021 with a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Studies and a Minor in Psychology. He graduated from Lamar University in May of 2023 with an M.S. in Kinesiology. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified USA Weightlifting Level 1 coach.
Compton was born and raised in Mount Prospect, Illinois.
