Kyle Whonsetler is in his first season as the Senior Associate Athletic Trainer at Illinois State. Kyle works primarily with the men's basketball team.

He comes to Illinois State after spending two years at Eastern Kentucky, where he served as the Director of Sports medicine and the men's basketball athletic trainer. That followed a stint from 2016 to 2024 at Trine University, first serving as an assistant athletic trainer working with men's basketball and football before moving into the head athletic trainer role from 2021-24. During that time, he worked with the Division III National Championship men's basketball team.

After earning a bachelors of biology from Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Whonsetler earned a master's of athletic training from Manchester College in 2012. A native of LaOtto, Indiana, Whonsetler is a licensed athletic trainer in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois and resides in the Twin Cities with his wife, Alicia, and daughters, Addison and Ellie.
