Rachel Weaver is in her first year as the Assistant Director of Social Media Strategy and Content at Illinois State University. She serves as the primary social media contact for Illinois State football and track & field, overseeing all creative content for both programs.
Before joining the ISU Social Media team, Weaver earned her Master’s in Communication with a specialization in Sports Communication from Dallas Baptist University, where she worked as the media relations graduate assistant in the athletic department. In that role, she managed communications and social media for six sports — men’s basketball, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s tennis and baseball. Her responsibilities included writing press releases, creating graphics and videos, managing social media content and live-tweeting events. During her time at DBU, both the men’s basketball and women’s tennis programs made historic postseason runs, making the experience especially meaningful.
During her time at DBU, Weaver also interned with Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas as a social media intern before transitioning into a part-time Social Media Coordinator role. In this position, she planned, created and published content across major platforms — leveraging trends, analytics and real-time coverage to build a consistent brand voice and deepen fan connection. She also had creative control of the MLS Next Pro club North Texas SC’s social media channels and led a small intern team on gamedays. Her previous experience also includes serving as a Traveling Communications Intern with the American Junior Golf Association.
Weaver is a native of Dallas, Texas.
