After a short break for the holidays, the Illinois State track and field team returns to action Saturday at Illinois.
Among the teams competing will be Illinois and Missouri Valley Conference rivals Southern Illinois, Southwest Missouri State and Indiana State.
Its a loaded meet and its going to be great to compete again, head coach Jeff Pigg said. This meet will give us a chance to get our feet on the ground. Its a great opportunity to see how training over break was. For some it will be very exciting and for others it will be a wake-up call, but both are motivating.
Saturday marks the second meet of the indoor season for the Redbirds, who hosted the Early Bird Classic in December.
Our focus for the season is to be ready for the conference championship, Pigg added. Our goal is to develop the kids athletically and emotionally so they peak at the conference level. Well get nice performances, personal records and breakthroughs along the way over the course of the next six weeks.
Field events begin at 9 a.m. while running events get underway at 11:30 a.m. at the University of Illinois Armory.
