GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Illinois State track and field team set two school records on Friday at the Pepsi Florida Relays at the Pearcy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.
The men's 4x400m relay team, featuring Jake Welch, Evan Watson, Zach Paul and Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr., took fifth and tied the school record with a time of 3:06.51. Becca Heitzig smashed the women's 1500m school record by over two seconds, earning seventh in the invite section with a time of 4:14.79.
Pauline Schedler wasn't far behind Heitzig, crossing the finish line in ninth with a time of 3:16.18 to move into third in program history. On the men's side of the 1500m Invite, Julian Baker took 12th with a personal-best time of 3:43.56 to jump from seventh to fifth in the school record books.
Several other Redbirds earned top-20 finishes on the day:
- Cayde de Waal took runner up in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:51.68.
- Cole Stevens earned 12th in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 55.69m.
- Adi Scott took 20th in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 51.14m.
- Isabelle Hemmen earned 16th in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.75m.
- Nwagwu finished 16th in the 200m dash with a time of 21.06.
- Abigial Milott earned 12th in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.68m.
- Brody Rigdon placed 20th in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.82m.
