Tracksters Continue Season With Wisconsin Invitational

Hoping to build towards the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24 at Carbondale, Ill., the Illinois State Track and Field team continues its indoor season this weekend with a tough meet in the Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Saturday. The Redbirds are coming off a strong showing at their own Illinois State Invitational last week, which included ISU sweeping both the mens and womens mile and also claiming the top two finishers in the mens 3,000. This weekend is a great opportunity to face some quality opponents in Wisconsin and Arizona, Redbird head coach Jeff Pigg said. All-American Sam Serrano and junior Rebecca Koehler finished one-two in the womens weight throw last week, respectively. While freshman Jarod Tobler and sophomore Chevis Hemphill also were the top two leapers in the mens triple jump for the Redbirds. This is a very exciting opportunity for us, Pigg said. We are facing good competion and hopefully we can rise to the occassion and have some great performances. Its a good, competitive environment and a good facility, and our kids are really looking forward to competing. This weekend the Redbirds will face perrenial Big Ten power Wisconsin and Arizona beginning at 11 a.m. at Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center in Madison, Wis., before returning home to host the Redbird Open at Horton Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 3.
