Joining the Illinois State track and field team this spring for his sophomore season of competition is Kenya native Walter Ogola. Ogola enrolled at Illinois State for the spring semester after transferring from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.
We are all real excited that Walter has decided to come to ISU, Illinois State head coach Jeff Pigg said. He had to do a lot of things to get here and that shows hes a hard worker and has a great desire to be here.
Ogola was an all-conference selection at Missouri Valley and qualified for nationals in cross-country in his freshman season.
I wanted a chance to compete at a higher level and receive a good education, Ogola said. I am looking forward to working with Coach Pigg and the excellent coaching staff here at ISU.
Ogola will be eligible for competition next week when the Redbirds compete at the MVC Indoor Championships at Carbondale, Ill., Feb. 23-24.
He can put up good 400, 800 and mile times, Pigg said. Hes a very nice young man that has had to work extremely hard to get here and I know he is going to continue to work hard to be the best he can be.
