Goy Claims Fourth in Mile at NCAA Championships

With a school-record 3:59.61 in the mile, junior Christian Goy captured fourth place and earned his second All-America distinction at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The race was the fastest in NCAA history as six runners completed the mile in under four minutes. He really executed his race plan very well, head coach Jeff Pigg said. It was one of the most exciting things I have ever seen. The entire building was standing up and going crazy. Goy, named the Missouri Valley Conferences Most Outstanding Male Athlete at the conference meet, was edged by Bryan Berryhill of Colorado State, Charlie Gruber of Kansas and Stanfords Gabe Jennings who won the event at the US Olympic Trials. Anyone associated with Illinois State University would have had goosebumps during the race, Pigg said. Christian did a brilliant job and Im very proud. Goy and the rest of the Illinois State track and field team open the outdoor portion of the season next weekend at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
