Pierre Woods, a hurdler, sprinter and high jumper for the Illinois State University track and field team, has been dismissed from the team for violations of team policy.
Woods, a sophomore, was one of the Missouri Valley Conferences top freshmen performers last year.
Illinois State head coach Jeff Pigg said Woods made some poor choices leading up to his dismissal.
Im disappointed with his choices, said Pigg. I like Pierre Woods, and I wish him well, but being part of this team and this athletics department means meeting important standards. Ive told the athletes what we expect, and that they have an obligation to make good decisions. Pierre understands that.
The Redbird track teams compete at the Cardinal Invite at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., this weekend.
