All-American thrower Sam Serrano finished in third-place in both the womens shot put and the discus to lead the Illinois State throwers at the Pacesetter Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
Serrano threw her season best in the discus with a throw of 145-11. In the shot put, she had a toss of 44-2 1/2.
Following Serrano in the shot put was freshman Latisha Johnson, who claimed fifth with a throw of 42-8. In the hammer throw, Serrano finished seventh with a mark of 148-9 while freshman Alexia Carther threw a season best of 132-6 for 14th.
On the mens side, Harry Lattimore, a transfer from Missouri Valley Community College, earned sixth in the discus with 155-8. Team captain Alfie Gordillo threw a season best in the disc with 148-5 for 11th.
Gordillo was the top Redbird finisher in the shot put as well as the hammer. Placing seventh in the shot put with 50-10 3/4, Gordillo threw another season best in the hammer with a throw of 168-11.
Lattimore was right behind Gordillo in the shot put, finishing in eighth with a mark of 48-8 1/4 while teammate Joe Drevlow hit his season best mark of 48-5 1/2 for ninth. Drevlow also set a new personal record with hammer throw of 167-8.
The throwers join the rest of the ISU track and field team in action at the Illinois Mid-Week Twilight, Tuesday in Champaign.
