With the Illinois State throwers competing at the Pacesetter Invitational this past weekend, the runners now get their opportunity to compete Tuesday at the Illinois Mid-Week Twilight, in Champaign, Ill.
Its going to be a good meet, head coach Jeff Pigg said. I talked with the Illinois coach, and hes really excited about it, too. Were going to line up and go head to head.
Its a great opportunity for us to go 45 miles and get a chance to run against a Big Ten school with a great facility.
The Redbirds competed close to home last weekend, as well, and saw several top finishes. Alia Hoyle, Andrew Jury and Kevin Bailey collected first-place finishes in the 100 meter dash, high jump and steeplechase, respectively, at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational at Monmouth.
Since this meet is not going to be scored, this is a good way for individuals to compete and see where they are in against a Big Ten team, Pigg added.
With the Drake Relays approaching this weekend, several athletes will not be competing at the unscored mid-week meet.
The Redbird throwers have the week off to tune up for the final portion of the season.
The common thread for the throwers is to regroup and rest to prepare themselves for the stretch run into the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, Pigg said.
