After the first day of competition at the Drake Relays, heptathletes Hillary Hyland and Hildegunn Holten sit in seventh and 12th place, respectively.
Hyland clocked 15.04 in the 100-meter hurdles, jumped 5-5 1/4 in the high jump, 35-8 1/2 in the shot put and ran the 200 in 28.50. With a total of 2,753 points, Hyland is currently in seventh-place.
Coach Mary Wallace feels Hyland posted strong numbers and is competing well.
She maintained seventh-place going into the 200, which is a good sign, Wallace said. The 200 and the 800 are her weaker events, and if she can get through those two she should do well.
Holten totaled 2,655 points the first day, placing her in 12th overall. She finished the 100 hurdles in 16.00, cleared 5-0 1/2 in the high jump, tossed the shot put 37-1 and had a time of 27.63 in the 200.
The first day is a rough day for Hildegunn, Wallace said. The second day is definitely the stronger of the two for her. Its important for her to get through the first day without getting into a big hole.
The heptathlon concludes tomorrow while the remainder of the events at the Drake Relays begin on Friday.
