All-American Kathrine Nielsen scored 5,218 points in her first heptathlon of the season to take eighth-place at the Clyde LIttlefield Texas Relays.
During the first day of competition, Nielsen tallied 3,060 points by high jumping 5-7, tossing the shot put 33-11 and running 26.05 in the 200 meters.
Day two saw Nielsen at the long jump pit, the javelin and on the track running the 800. In the long jump, she had a leap of 18-2 while throwing a career-best 126-4 in the javelin. She nearly broke her best time in the 800 by running a 2:22.05.
Kathrine had a strong showing in her first heptathlon of the year, coach Mary Wallace said. She was very consistent and is pleased with where shes starting.
The Illinois State track and field team competes at the Missouri Relays this weekend.
