Gillon Named Track and Field Assistant Coach

After serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Illinois State track and field team last season, Randy Gillon has been named assistant coach. A former All-Big Ten hurdler at Illinois, Gillon will guide the Redbird sprinters and hurdlers. Prior to last season, the Brampton, Ontario native spent two years as a volunteer assistant under Gary Winckler at Illinois. Were really excited to have Randy join our staff, head coach Jeff Pigg said. Hes an outstanding person. The combination of knowledge, caring ways and ability to communicate will make him a perfect fit with the rest of the staff, the athletes and the administration. Gillon, who graduated in May with his masters degree in Applied Kinesiology from Illinois, fills the position left by assistant Kevin Boyer who is returning his former position at Logan Rogersville (Mo.) High School. Kevin is leaving for the same reason we hired him, Pigg said. Hes done a great job here and will leave here proud of what he did. It really shows the kind of person he is when they (Logan Rogersville) did everything they could to get him back.
