Illinois State junior Christian Goy placed ninth in the mens 1,500 meters while senior Katherine Nielsen took 12th and 18th in the heptathlon and the high jump, respectively at the 2001 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Rheinsburg, Germany native, Goy, who finished 12th in the 1,500 at the NCAA meet last season, clocked a time of 3:44.04 for ninth in the twelve man field. Colorado States Bryan Berryhill took home the national title with a run of 3:37.05.
Nielsen, who tallied 3,161 points the first day, totaled 5,309 for 12th in the heptathlon. On her second day of competition, the Glostrup, Denmark, native tossed the javelin 118-4, leapt 18-7 3/4 in the long jump and ran 800 meters in 2:22.40.
Kansas States Austra Skujyte claimed the 2001 heptathlon crown with 5,857 points, nearly 100 points more than second-place Michelle Perry of UCLA.
In the high jump, Nielsen cleared the 5-8 mark for 18th. Senior Dora Gyorffy from Harvard won the womens high jump with a height of 6-2 3/4.
