The Illinois State track and field team travels to Champaign, Ill., on Saturday, January 12 for the Illinois Invitational hosted by the University of Illinois. The meet, to be held at the Illinois Armoury, will begin at 9 a.m. with the field events, while the running events will start at 11:45 a.m.
Teams competing in the meet include: Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Indiana State (women only) and Southwest Missouri State. Indiana State had a first place finish on the mens side of the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, while the women finished in second place overall at the event. Southwest Missouri State finished ahead of Indiana State on the womens side to claim the Valley crown.
The quality of teams at the Illinois Invitational will ensure that every event is an exciting one, said Illinois State head track and field coach Jeff Pigg. It will be nice to line up after the semester break and see where the team is at.
The Redbirds will return to the Twin-Cities on Saturday, January 19 to compete in the I.W.U. Invitational.
