Senior co-captain Sam Serrano and sophomore JaRod Tobler were named the Missouri Valley Conference Female and Male Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Illinois Invitational in Champaign, Ill., on January 12.
Serrano claimed second place in the 20-lb. weight with a throw of 59-0. The mark also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 8-9.
Tobler claimed first place in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 51-2 3/4. The mark also provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships. In addition, Tobler finished second in the long jump with a mark of 23-0 1/2.
The Illinois State track and field team continues its season at the I.W.U. Invitational in Bloomington on Saturday, January 19.
