Lightning Cuts Short Illinois April Twilight Meet

The Illinois April Twilight Track and Field Meet was unable to be completed due to lightning tonight in Champaign, Ill. Nearly all the field events, with the exceptions of the triple jump and womens pole vault, were completed; however, only four womens and two mens races were clocked. On the womens side for Illinois State, Sam Serrano finished second overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 170-3. Liz Chukwudebe claimed third place in the shot put with a throw of 46-3 1/4, while Latisha Johnson earned fourth with a 45-9 1/4. Hillary Hyland finished second in the javelin throw with a mark of 127-2 and Jen Klostermann got fourth place overall in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:48.54. For the men, Harry Lattimore continued to put up big marks in the discus with a career-best heave of 164-4, which was good enough for second place. Joseph Drevlow won the hammer throw with a mark of 169-3, while Lattimore finished right behind him in second with a season-best throw of 161-5. Lattimore also claimed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 49-10 1/2. Chivas Hemphill finished in fourth place as well for the Birds in the long jump with a season-best mark of 22-10. Next weekend, members of the Illinois State track and field team head to Des Moines, Iowa, to participate in the Drake Relays from Thursday, April 25, until Saturday, April 27.
