Devers Latest Signee with Redbird Track and Field

Cherise Devers, a sprint runner from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, will continue her academic and athletic career at Illinois State University as part of the Redbird track and field team. A graduate of Mary Ward Secondary School, Devers ran the 100-meter dash in 12 seconds while at Mary Ward. Other best times for Devers were 24:50 in the 200 meter and 56:01 in the 400 meter. She was also a 400-meter relay leg runner for the Canadian National Scholastic Team. Head coach Elvis Forde is excited about the addition to his team as Devers brings enthusiasm and attention to details to an area of the program that needs those qualities. I am excited that Cherise will be a part of this program, Forde said. She will really help us in the sprints and brings added depth to that area for us. She is a very focused athlete and mature for her age. Those are qualities we need in our program and her leadership skills will show for us even as a freshman, leading us in the direction we want to go in the sprints area. I hope she keeps her bubbly attitude throughout her career at Illinois State, Forde continued. If she keeps that surfaced through the hard training, then I know she will be a huge asset to this program.
