Track and Field Fares Well at Drake Relays

Members of the Illinois State track and field teams competed at the prestigious Drake Relays this weekend and fared well considering the steep level of competition at the 94th annual event that draws athletes from across the nation. Andrea Mosher, a freshman from Ann Arbor, Mich., placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.27. She already has qualified for the NCAA regionals in the event this outdoor season. Also placing for the Redbirds was Latisha Johnson, who finished fifth in the shot put while Pierre Woods on the men's side was 13th in the high jump. Miklos Konkoly tied for 10th in the 800 meters while Rhett Hillard was 10th in the shot put. Other notable finishers on them en's side include Joe Drevlow who placed 7th in the hammer, Chivas Hemphill who was 15th in the triple jump and John Shaffer who placed 14th in the steeplechase. The Redbirds return to action next weekend, May 3 at the Twilight Invite hosted by Iowa while certain members of the track and field teams who didn't compete at the Drake Relays participated in the SIUE meet Saturday.
