Brittney Hourd of the Illinois State track and field womens team was named Missouri Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Week after her performances in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash at the Last Chance Meet hosted by Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington last Saturday.
The freshman from University City, Mo., placed third in the 400-meter dash with a recorded time of 59.26. In the 200-meter dash, Hourd placed eighth and ran the event in 25.69. It was a career-best time for Hourd in the 200-meter dash.
Other weekly honors went to Felix Anderson of Southern Illinois, Krystal Bowes and Casey Smith, both of Wichita State.
Illinois State concludes its outdoor season with the 2003 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend, May 15-17, in Carbondale, Ill. The Birds were picked to finish fifth on the womens side and fourth on the mens side in the pre-championship poll distributed by the conference office.
