Kennedy Led Women Redbirds in Iowa

Illinois State womens cross country runner Laura Kennedy led the Redbirds with her third place finish at the Iowa State 4K with a time of 14:27.57. Kennedys third place finish was followed Betsy McDonald, who ran a 14:46.83, good for ninth place. Other Redbird women in the top 20 included Diana Ainsley with a time of 15:22.52, Maureen Nelligan (15:23.07) and Suzy Turner (15:23.76). Head coach Chris Bailey was pleased with the way Kennedy ran her race today. Laura was real aggressive today, said Bailey. She came out and ran at the front of the pack right away, which is what I like to see out of her. On the mens side, Jeremy Doherty was the top finisher for the Illinois State team with a time of 20:13.77, good for 16th place. Greg Baker finished in 18th place (22:22.94). Rounding out the top 20 was Geoff Houtman with a time of 20:24.44. Bailey was happy to see the hard work and improvement shown in Bakers performance. Greg got off to a slow start, said Bailey. But he looked a lot stronger as the race progressed and I can seen his improvement and that he is working hard. Todays meet at Iowa State was strictly an individual meet and no team scores were taken. Both the Redbird men and women return to action next Saturday October 9, in Carbondale, Ill. -###-
