For the second time this season, Rhett Hillard of the Illinois State track and field team was named Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for his performance last weekend during the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
Hillard, a junior from LeRoy, helped the Redbirds take a second-place finish at the championships in Terre Haute, Ind., placing second last weekend in the shot put with a throw of 54-11 1/2. He has a 3.15 cumulative grade-point average in business administration.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley
institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
In Redbird track and field action Friday, the mens distance medley team took ninth at the Alex Wilson Invite Friday, in South Bend, Ind. The team of Dan Tripp, Miklos Konkoly, Tyler Gaumer and Jeremy Doherty clocked in with a time of 9:42.47. Thrower Latisha Johnson will compete in the shot put tomorrow.
NCAA Nationals will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., March 12-13.
