For the third week in a row, a member of the Illinois State throws squad earned Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Junior Rhett Hillard took home the honors after his performance in the shot put the last two weeks. This time, sophomore Mark Jackson earned the recognition after his performance in the hammer throw over the weekend.
Jackson accomplished two things when he threw a season-best 184-6 in the hammer throw at the Billy Hayes Invite in Bloomington, Ind., Friday. He moved to the top of the Valley list in that event, but also hit the regional qualifying mark. His throw was good enough for tenth place on the evening.
Mark is the classic hard working kid, Illinois State assistant coach for throws Brent Chumbley said. Hes done a fabulous job this season.
The throwers feel like they are peaking at the right time and they are excited about the chance to compete at home, Chumbley continued. Everyone expects big things from the conference meet.
The Redbirds conclude the outdoor season this weekend when they host the MVC Championships May 12-15.
