TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Illinois State's Trey Thomas wrapped up day one of the decathlon at the Gibson Invitational on Thursday. After five of the 10 events, Thomas sits in fifth place with 3,533 points.
Thomas highlighted his day with a season-best mark of 1.96m in the high jump and a personal-best leap of 6.30m in the long jump.
Thomas also placed seventh in the shot put (11.67m) and clocked times of 11.27 in the 100-meter dash (ninth) and 51.94 in the 400m race (eighth) to round out his first five events.
Bryan Clay Invitational
Two Redbirds also competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., on Thursday night.
Mattison Plummer competed in the open 3000m steeplechase and placed 21st with a time of 10:18.78, while Astrid Van Breedam competed in the collegiate section of the event and finished in 66th with a mark of 10:44.93.
