Tripp Earns Scholar-Athlete of the Week Honors

Dan Tripp, a member of the Illinois State mens track and field team, has been selected as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 7-13 announced today by the league office. Tripp, a junior from Belleville, Ontario, placed eighth in the mile with a personal-best effort of 4:05.29 at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 12. Tripp, who has a 3.62 cumulative grade-point average in physical education, recorded the top indoor mile time in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2005 by more than four seconds. Head coach Elvis Forde is proud of Tripp and the success he has had at Illinois State. Dan is not only outstanding in the classroom, but athletically as well, said Forde. Hes has done so much for us here at Illinois State, especially this year. Hes very deserving of this type of honor. To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, complete at least one academic year at a Valley institution and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
