Final Stats
NORMAL, Ill. -
In the final three events of the heptathlon at the 97th Annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Illinois State's Brittney Hourd tallied 1,849 points in the final three events to take 11th-place.
Hourd's top performance over the two days came in the long jump, as she took second-place with a jump of 19-00.75. She also turned in a time of 2:32.48 in the 800-meters for 15th, and was 16th in the javelin with a throw of 84-02.00. After all seven events, Hourd totaled 4,833 points.
Assistant coach Tim Thompson was pleased with Hourd's long jump performance, but wasn't as excited about the javelin and 800-meters.
"We were a little disappointed," said Thompson. "She had a descent point total, but I think coming off yesterday's performances and such a long day, her energy level was down. Brittney had a great long jump, but we didn't quite get what we wanted out of the javelin and 800-meters."
Hourd will have to recuperate quickly and get prepared for the 100-meter hurdles she will compete in at 11 a.m. tomorrow and then focus on the long jump Saturday.
Tomorrow's events will also see the Redbirds in the preliminary races of the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays. Lian Lucas and Devon Williams will compete in the 100-meter dash, while Andrea Mosher will compete in the in the 400-meter hurdles for the first time this season. Laura Kennedy is entered in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the women's distance medley relay and the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays will contend for a spot in the finals on Saturday.
