NORMAL, Ill. -
The Missouri Valley Conference announced today that 12 Illinois State track and field student-athletes were selected to the MVC Track and Field Scholar-Athlete team based on their performances at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The women's team boasted nine scholar-athlete selections, while five were selected to the men's team.
The women's scholar-athlete team included Frannie Epps, Anna Lovell, Lian Lucas, Devon Williams, Betsy McDonald, Andrea Mosher, Suzy Turner, Laura Kennedy and Lauren Maul. The men's team featured seniors Mark Jackson, Dan Tripp and Brian Krantz. Among all Valley schools, 95 student-athletes qualified for the team.
Head coach Elvis Forde was pleased with the team's recognition and has always stressed the importance of education to his student-athletes.
"It's a great honor for our student-athletes to be recognized with this kind of award," said Forde. "These individuals have shown what it takes to be a true student-athlete by the hard work they display in the classroom and on the track."
Criteria for the Valley Scholar-Athlete honor requires that the student-athlete must carry a 3.00 cumulative GPA or higher and place in the top six in their respective event at either the indoor or outdoor conference championship meet. First-year and junior college transfer students are not eligible.
