For his performance at last weekend's Vanderbilt Invitational, Illinois State track and field team member junior Alex Straughn earned his first career Missouri Valley Conference weekly award after being named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Field Co-Athlete of the Week Wednesday.
Straughn shares the honor with Northern Iowa's Ehi Oamen, as the pair both hit NCAA Regional qualifying marks in high jump competition last weekend. Straughn cleared a height of 6-10.75 feet at the event hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. Straughn finished tied for first with Arkansas State's Shawn Aronson, recording nine points for the Redbirds.
Straughn and select members of the Redbird track team will travel to Des Moines to compete in the 98th Annual Drake Relays. The competition begins on Wednesday at Drake Stadium.
