NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
In his first 5,000-meter run of the season, Illinois State track and field sophomore Scott Krapf ran a personal-best, with a time of 14 minutes, 33.93 seconds at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., inside the Loftus Center Friday evening.
Head coach Elvis Forde felt that his athletes performed well today and that Krapf executed his race strategy well.
"Scott (Krapf) and Mike (Richardson) ran on pace during the first mile and only started to drop off slightly in mile two," said Forde. "Scott should feel good about his performance, whenever you can improve upon a previous performance is a step in the right direction. I am sure that his performance tonight will place him on the Missouri Valley Conference performance lists."
Junior Mike Richardson also participated in the 5,000-meter run with Krapf. The Buffalo Grove, Ill., crossed the finish line in 14:52.30 (21st).
Representing the Redbirds in the weight throw, senior Anton Walczak placed 14th with a distance of 53-09.25 ft.
"Our athletes just need to continue to improve," said Forde. "This meet is a great opportunity to compete against the best. I am looking forward to tomorrow."
In day two of the Meyo Invitational, freshman Michelle Brunk and senior Suzy Turner will compete in the women's mile, freshman Matt Mroczynski will run the 3,000-meters and junior Kim Smudde will see action in the 800-meters. In the sprints, seniors Jeremy Johnson and Devon Williams will compete in the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Anna Lovell will join Williams in the 200 and race in the 400-meters.
