NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Senior Devon Williams set a new season-best (7.49 seconds), only six-hundredths of a second shy of breaking her personal-best and school record (7.43 sec.) in the 60-meter dash to place fourth overall, highlighting the Illinois State track and field performances at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., Saturday. The Oswego, Ill., native also finished fourth with a time of 24.45 in the 200-meter dash.

Head Coach Elvis Forde felt Williams performance today put her in an excellent position to perform well at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships (March 1-2, in Cedar Falls, Iowa).

"Things are coming together really well for Devon," said Forde. "She really had a great day. She ran twice in the 60-meters, and then an hour later she competed in the 200 and was able to finish strong."

Senior Suzy Turner and freshman Michelle Brunk set personal-bests in the women's mile, crossing the finish line in 4:58.39 and 5:02.62, respectively. Junior Kim Smudde placed 29th in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:13.80.

Representing the men's team, freshman Matt Mroczynski placed 20th with a time of 8:23.10 in the 3,000-meter run. Senior Jeremy Johnson finished with a time of 7.10 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, but did not compete in the finals due to a strained quad-muscle injury.

"I was happy with our team's performance today," said Forde. "The group of athletes that we brought today really stepped up and they continue to improve."

The Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams will compete again Feb. 15-16 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
