Notre Dame, Ind. -
In her first 5,000-meter run of the indoor season, Illinois State track and field senior Suzy Turner set a new personal-best with a time of 16 minutes, 55 seconds to place sixth at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., inside the Loftus Center Friday evening.
The Palatine, Ill., native was only 10 seconds short of an NCAA Division I provisional qualifying time (16:45.00). Illinois State graduate assistant track and field coach Bryan George felt Turner competed well in a tough field.
"Suzy was running against some of the best runners in the country and did a great job," said George. "She really established herself as one of the best runners and proved that she is capable of running with national level competition."
Senior Alex Straughn is set to compete in the high jump and triple jump at the Iowa State Last Chance Qualifier inside the Lied Recreations Facility tomorrow in Ames, Iowa.
