Former Redbird QB Glenn Released by Winnipeg

WINNIPEG, Canada - Former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn was released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) Monday following a winter of trade talks and contract renegotiation attempts between Glenn and the Blue Bombers.

Glenn played for Winnipeg from 2004-08. He began his career in the CFL in 2001 with Saskatchewan and quarterbacked the Roughriders through the 2003 season.

The 2007 CFL Most Outstanding Player was due a CA$50,000 bonus March 15 from Winnipeg prior to his outright release. Glenn had been in trade talks for weeks with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, also of the CFL, but those talks broke down and no other CFL teams made offers on the 29-year-old quarterback.

Glenn threw at a career-high 64.5 yards per pass completion last season, completing 293-of-454 pass attempts for 3,637 yards and 20 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. He had a banner season in 2007, when he led the CFL in completions (388), attempts (621) and passing yards (5,114) before breaking his left arm in Winnipeg's 19-9 victory over the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL East Division final.

Glenn played at Illinois State from 1997-2000. He still holds numerous school career passing records, including pass attempts (1,164), pass completions (663), passing yards (8,251) and passing touchdowns (62).

He also set several prominent school single-season and single-game records, including passing yards in a game (457) and passing touchdowns in a game (6), as well as single-season passing yards (3,037) and single-season passing touchdowns (26). Glenn graduated from Illinois State with 25 school records.
