WALNUT, Calif. - The Illinois State track and field 5,000-meter runners came up short and did not make the NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Mt. SAC Relays, Friday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.

Illinois State assistant coach Jeff Bovee and his quarter of runners objective in traveling to the Mt. SAC Relays was to make regional times in the men's and women's 5,000.

"We came here hoping for regional qualifiers and we did not get that," said Bovee. "It is hard to see the silver lining in our performances, but hopefully the kids will use this as a building block. It wasn't for a lack of effort; we just didn't do well and are all wondering what happened."

In the women's race Olivia Myers clocked in with a time of 17:26.92 finishing in 16th place, while Jess Husted finished in 37th place with a time of 18:29.42.

On the men's side, Matt Mroczynski and Mike Richardson, who were running in their first 5,000 since the indoor season, posted times of 14:46.10 and 14:56, respectively. Both Mroczynski and Richardson finished in the lower part of the race. Richardson was a last minute entry and his performance was not listed in the results.

The Redbirds are back in action next weekend as a select group travels to the prestigious Drake Relays held in Des Moines, Iowa, April 23-25.
