NORMAL, Ill. - The No. 19 ranked Illinois State football continues its home slate this weekend against No. 23 Southern Illinois at Hancock Stadium. ISU head coach Brock Spack will give his insights on the upcoming against the Salukis and will recap last week's thrilling double overtime win against Missouri State on Tuesday at noon his weekly press conference at the Kaufman Football Building.
The Redbirds and the Salukis head into this week's game as ranked teams but on very different situations. The Redbirds are 3-1 on the season and are off to a 2-0 record in Missouri Valley Football Conference play with wins at No. 20 South Dakota State and at home last weekend against Missouri State. The Salukis on the other hand come in with a 1-3 record, with three straight losses including a 31-28 defeat at the hands of Youngstown State last weekend.
Coach Spack will be joined at the weekly luncheon by seniors E.J. Jones and Dane Zumbahlen. Jones picked off his second pass of the season against Missouri State, which moves him up to 11th in school history with eight career interceptions, and has 16 tackles on the season for the Redbirds. Zumbahlen started his 22nd game in a row on the offensive line Saturday against the Bears and helped the team to a season-high 539 yards of total offense and protected quarterback Matt Brown as he threw for a career-high 391 yards passing. He also paved the way for Ashton Leggett, who scored four times on the ground in the win for ISU.
