NORMAL, Ill. - For the third time in the last four semesters, the Illinois State Athletics Department tied its grade-point average (GPA) record. The Redbirds achieved a 3.13 GPA as a department and earned three other academic records in the Fall 2010 semester.
The Redbirds' overall GPA of 3.13 tied the department record, which was achieved in the Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 semesters as well. The Redbirds have earned a GPA above 3.00 in five-consecutive semesters. There were 266 student-athletes on the AFNI Athletics Honor Roll and 60 student-athletes recorded 4.0 grade-point averages.
ISU's 10 women's programs combined for a 3.31 GPA, narrowly missing the record of 3.32. The women's soccer team earned a 3.69 GPA, the highest mark ever by any sport. The soccer team surpassed the previous department record of 3.66 set by the women's tennis team in the Fall 2007 semester.
ISU's seven men's programs set a record with a 2.95 GPA, edging out the 2.94 GPA record from the Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 semesters. The men's tennis team earned the highest GPA of the semester with a 3.28, while the track and field team set a sport record with a 3.05.
The Redbirds continued their dedication to serving the Central Illinois community, amassing 1,724 of community service hours during the semester and putting them well on the way towards a sixth-consecutive academic year of more than 2,000 hours.
