Illinois State Athletics Academic Honor Roll
The Illinois State Athletics Honor Roll is a distinction for student-athletes that have earned a 3.0 or greater GPA during the spring or fall semesters. Honors are also given to teams that achieve the highest GPA over the course of a semester. In a ceremony held during halftime of a men's home basketball game, the honor roll athletes and teams are brought down to center court to be announced. Illinois State has consistently managed to place nearly half of its student-athlete population on the honor roll. Our athletes continually excel in both athletic and academic pursuits.

Elite 17 Award
The Elite 17 Award Program, formally the Elite 18 Award, was established by the Missouri Valley Conference in the fall of 2010 to honor the highest achievement in academics and athletics by a student-athlete in each MVC-sponsored sport. Modeled after the NCAA Elite 88 Academic Recognition Award Program, the MVC Elite 17 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the MVC's 17 team championships.

The selection process varies for each sport, and winners are chosen from a list of nominations submitted by MVC institutions. For the team sports of soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, baseball and softball, the winner will be chosen from the two teams participating in the championship game or match. For cross country, golf, swimming and diving, and track and field, the winners will be chosen from nominated student-athletes who have met a athletic performance threshold (for instance, in cross country, the eligible student-athletes must have finished among the top 10 at the championship meet). The Elite 18 award was given to five outstanding student-athletes in the 2012-2013 school year.

2023-24 Elite 17 Award Winners

Charlotte West

The first-ever recipient of the Honda Award of Merit in 1996 for outstanding achievement in women's collegiate athletics, Dr. Charlotte West was a driving force for more than 40 years in the area of advancement of women's sports. On June 30, 1998, she retired from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, after serving in the capacities of head coach, associate athletics director, interim athletics director and senior woman administrator during her 41 years with the Missouri Valley Conference-member institution. West coached five women's sports from 1957-75 and, in 1982, was among the first group of women inducted into the SIUC Athletics Hall of Fame.

Charlotte West Award Winners

State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award

The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their MVC Leadership & Service Award honorees.
