Illinois Intercollegiate Meet Schedule
NORMAL, Ill. - The Redbird track and field program will look to build on its early season success, when the Redbirds head to Urbana, Ill., to compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate Saturday.
The Illinois Intercollegiate will start at 10 a.m., with the women's weight throw followed by the running events, with the morning session starting at noon and followed by the afternoon session beginning at 3 p.m.
The Illinois Intercollegiate is a meet that features teams from the state of Illinois. The Redbirds will compete against Missouri Valley Conference rival Bradley, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, McKendree, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Western Illinois.
ISU has competed in three meets so far during the indoor season. ISU opened the season at home on Dec. 4, 2010, with the Redbird Open and dominated the meet by winning 14 events. After the holiday break, the Redbirds competed Jan. 15, in Terre Haute, Ind., in an annual dual meet with Valley rival Indiana State and fell to the Sycamores on both the men's and women's side. Illinois State's most recent meet was the Redbird Invite where ISU hosted in-state rivals Northern Illinois and Western Illinois. The Redbirds won 23 of the day's 30 events at the invitational inside historic Horton Field House.
Amanda Albrecht won the high jump with a personal-best leap of 5-08.75 at the Redbird Invite. The ISU women controlled the distance events throughout the invite. Sade Sealy (1:33.85), Breanna Staples (1:37.96) and Jil Kerman (1:38.38) grabbed the top-three spots in the 600-meter run. Aisha Praught won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.12, while Samantha Bluske won the mile with a personal-best time of 5:04.60.
In the women's field events, Brittany Smith continued to be a dominating force for the Redbirds at the Redbird Invite, as she won the weight throw with a mark of 61-04.75 and the shot put with a throw of 52-06.75.
On the men's side, Curt Jensen won the men's shot put with a personal-best throw of 56-06.50, while Akil Mills grabbed a first-place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 63-03.25.
In other action on the track, the ISU men's distance runners controlled the mile run, as John Navarro (4:20.02), Blake Brooks (4:22.37), Jon Roberts (4:26.09) and Sean Senf (4:35.28) finished in first through fourth place, respectively. The ISU men's sprinters dominated the 60-meter dash, as Kayode Adegoke (7.05), Ben Sparkman (7.13) and Kyle Hunn-Andreae (7.23) finished in the top-three spots at the invite.
