Redbird Track and Field Completes Day One of Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Selected members of the Illinois State track and field teams completed the first day of competition at the 24th-annual Meyo Invitational Friday night at the Loftus Center in South Bend, Ind.

On the women's side, Jil Kerkman crossed the finish line in 14th place in the 500-meter dash with a mark of 1:17.68, while Jenna Combs (1:18.44) finished 16th followed by Breanna Staples (1:19.59), who took 22nd place. Tia Harvey was 16th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.75.

Elsewhere on the track, Samantha Bluske just missed the top-10 in the 5,000-meter run and took 11th place with a time of 17:07.54. The women's distance medley relay team made up of Aisha Praught, Sade Sealy, Kerkman and Jess Husted finished seventh in the event after crossing the finish line in 11:52.94.

On the men's side, Ben Sparkman finished 23rd in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best mark of 7.02, while Kayode Adegoke (7.04) took 27th place. Jon Roberts was 16th in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:31.21.

The men's distance medley relay team finished fourth with a time of 10:00.94 thanks to Mat Smoody, Fabian Norgrove, Nick Geyer and John Navarro.

The competition will resume Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. CT with the women's 3,000-meter run.
