Schedler Places Ninth at European U20 Championships

TAMPERE, Finland — Illinois State's Pauline Schedler competed for Austria in the 1500m race at the European Athletics U20 Championships over the weekend. Schedler, heading into her first season with the Redbirds, recorded a personal-best time of 4:21.25 in the prelims before placing ninth in the finals.

"Pauline has improved tremendously this summer in both the 800m and 1500m, running 2:09 and 4:21, and has shown consistency along the way," said Jeff Bovee, Illinois State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. "Competing at a high level in the Euro U20 Championship is a strong predictor of success in the Missouri Valley and NCAA right away as a freshman."

Schedler's previous personal-best time in the 1500m was 4:22.06, which she achieved at the Internationales Abendsportfest in Germany on July 23. She also notched a personal-best time in the 800m race this summer with a mark of 2:08.99 at the PUMA NITRO Lange Laufnacht in Germany on May 31.

Illinois State sophomore Astrid Van Breedam also competed at the European Athletics U20 Championships over the weekend. Representing Belgium, Van Breedam placed 14th in the preliminary round of the 3000m steeplechase and missed out on the finals.
