ST. LOUIS - Commissioner Doug Elgin has announced that the Missouri Valley Conference and the Special Olympics have entered into a partnership that will feature a league-wide community outreach program.
The Missouri Valley Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee will spearhead the initial outreach program, while Special Olympic athletes will participate in competitive play during the halftime of a game of the State Farm MVC Women's Basketball Championship.
The MVC will coordinate efforts to establish a program at each institution, working in conjunction with the MVC campus SAAC liaisons.
Through sports, Special Olympics' athletes have opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, learn new skills, gain self-confidence, set goals and reach expectations. Get involved with the Special Olympics program by contacting your local office.
