Harbert Sets School Record at Lee Calhoun Invitational

MACOMB, Ill. - Rachelle Harbert set a school record in the pole vault, as the Illinois State track and field teams dominated the competition at the Lee Calhoun Invitational Saturday in Macomb, Ill., at Hanson Field. Harbert took second in the event with a personal-best mark of 12-07.50, while both teams won the invitational.

The women's team took first with a team score of 210. Wisconsin-Milwaukee (177 points) took second on the women's side, while Marquette (106 points) was third. The men's team collected 187.5 team points for the first-place finish. Augustana (119.3 points) finished second as a men's team followed by Wisconsin-Milwaukee (104.5) in third.

On the track, Alia McAfee and Sade Sealy placed in the top five in the 200-meter dash, as McAfee (25.38) took second followed by Sade Sealy (25.43) in third. Sealy bested the competition in the 400-meter dash in 54.52 and was followed by McAfee (56.63) in third. Jenna Combs collected five points for the Redbirds after taking fourth in 1:04.21 the 400-meter hurdles.

Elsewhere on the track, Jil Kerkman added eight points to the team total with a second-place finish in the 800-meter dash with a personal-best time of 2:14.88. The ISU distance runners dominated the 1,500-meter run, as Jess Husted won the race in 4:32.70, while Samantha Bluske (4:34.57) and Kristen Zillmer (4:37.58) took second and third, respectively, for a combined 24 points. In the 3,000-meter run, Olivia Myers (10:27.95) was fourth followed by Kirsten Lang (10:52.48) in seventh.

Jordan Frey, Sealy, Combs and Kerkman teamed up for a first-place finish in the 4X400-meter relay completing the race in 3:52.11. The relay team of Shandel Ellis, Sealy, Jen Jenkins and McAfee took second in the 4X100-meter relay after crossing the finish line in 48.07.

In the field events, Kendall Rush jumped to a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 36-09.00, while Ijeoma Ibe was eighth with a personal-best leap of 35-01.75. Emily Swift's mark of 11-01.75 gave her seventh in the pole vault. Brittany Smith won the discus throw (164-03), and the shot put (49-11.25), while Tori Ziegler was fourth (136-08) in the discus and second (49-00.25) shot put. The duo combined for 33 points during the second day of competition.

On the men's side, Kayode Adegoke was third in the 100-meter dash (10.73) collecting six points, while Ben Sparkman (10.84) was sixth and Coty Kramer (10.92) finished 10th. Josh Pope collected six points after finishing the 110-meter hurdles in 14.73, a personal-best time, for third and took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.08) for four points. Fabian Norgrove (48.27) and Mat Smoody (48.29) finished in the top-two spots in the 400-meter dash, respectively. Norgrove collected 10 points for the win, while Smoody grabbed eight points for the total team score. Norgrove (22.23) continued to collect points for the Redbirds, as he finished third in the 200-meter dash collecting six points, while Kramer (22.50) and Adegoke (22.94) took fifth and 10th, respectively.

Nick Geyer was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.33. Erik Stanton finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:09.09 for fourth place, while Matt Mroczynski bested the competition in the 3,000-meter run finishing in 8:44.85 for 10 points.

Kramer, Sparkman, Smoody and Norgrove won the 4X400-meter relay after crossing the finish line in 3:17.29, while the 4X100-meter relay team of Sparkman, Adegoke, Kramer and Knight finished second with a time of 42.02.

In the field events, Tyler Knight won the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 49-06.25. Kris Mizel (48-08.25) and Ben Pratt (45-07.25) took second and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump. Mike Ziegler and Chase Pavelonis each cleared 15-01.00 in the pole vault for second and third, respectively. Curt Jensen (56-00.50) won the shot put, while teammates Patrick Trofimuk (47-11.25), Anthony Wirth (47-04.50) and Spencer Prince (47-01.00) took eighth through 10th, respectively.

The Redbirds will be back in action Friday, April 15, at the Mt. Sac Relays.
