Krapf Named Academic All-American

June 21, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State track and field senior Scott Krapf was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America men's track and field/cross country team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday. Krapf was a second-team selection in the university division.

"Sometimes it is hard to separate the student and the athlete in Scott, because he has excelled in both areas," ISU head track and field coach Elvis Forde said. "The nice thing about Scott is that he never rests on his success and keeps shooting for the stars. We know that one day Scott will be someone inspirational. He has the commitment, work ethic and the time management skills to do that. Scott came here as an average runner and worked hard to become an All-Missouri Valley Conference performer and individual cross country champion and a top student-athlete at Illinois State. He has been a tremendous benefit to ISU and our program."

Krapf was eligible for the award, after being named to Capital One Academic All-District V First Team, announced earlier this month.

The Danville, Ill., native finished the 10,000-meter run in fifth place at the Valley Outdoor Championships in 31:17.66 and was sixth in the 5,000-meter run at the meet, finishing the race in 14:55.85. At the NCAA West Regional, Krapf ran the 10,000-meter run in 30:05.94 and finished in 32nd place. The distance runner won the 5,000-meter run at the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic with a time of 14:40.98.

At Illinois State, he served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council as president and was a member of the Athletic Council. In addition to his tenure as president of the Illinois State SAAC, Krapf represents ISU at the conference level, serving as one of Illinois State's student-athlete representatives to the conference SAAC. He has been representing the Missouri Valley Conference SAAC on the NCAA National Student-Athlete Advisory Council for over two years. Last January, he was named the Vice Chair of the Division I National SAAC and this January he assumed the role as the Chair of the Division I National SAAC.

He was a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American in 2009 and was recently selected as a semi-finalist for the John Wooden Cup Award. He is a two-time scholar-athlete of the year award recipient at Illinois State.

"As he finishes his career at ISU, the accolades keep coming in with Valley awards and now this honor," Forde said. "Scott will continue to do very special things and will be a great alumnus for this university."

Krapf graduated in May with a Master's Degree in sport management and a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average and plans to pursue a law degree and a career in NCAA enforcement.
