Free Agent Robinson Signs With San Diego Chargers

SAN DIEGO - Former Illinois State All-American wide receiver Laurént Robinson agreed to a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League Wednesday, as announced on the team's website. Robinson played the past two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, but inked a deal with the Chargers as a free agent.

Robinson caught 34 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams in 14 games played during the 2010 season. The 6-foot-2, 197-pound wideout has played in 38 games in four seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons (2007-08) and the Rams (2009-10). During that time, he has recorded 89 catches for 1,000 yards and four touchdowns.

After a record-breaking collegiate career at Illinois State, Robinson was drafted by the Falcons in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He competed in 15 contests (six starts) with Atlanta and recorded a career-high 37 receptions for 437 yards (11.8 avg.) and one touchdown as a rookie. In 2008, Robinson played in only six games due to injury and was then subsequently traded to the Rams on April 8, 2009.

During his four seasons at Illinois State, Robinson set school records for career receiving yards (3,007), receptions (192) and receiving touchdowns (29) and he helped the team to a Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearance in 2006. During the 2005, Robinson was named a consensus All-American after catching 86 receptions for 1,465 yards and 12 touchdowns. That also earned Robinson recognition as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the top offensive player in the FCS.

Robinson will be eligible to join his new teammates and coaches at practice Thursday at Chargers Park in San Diego.
