The Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams announced their 2011-12 indoor and outdoor schedules Wednesday. The track & field season will consist of 22 meets, with two being hosted in Horton Field House and one at the Redbird Track & Field Complex.
The Redbirds will kick off their 2011-12 season at home in Horton Field House, Dec. 3, at the Redbird Open. ISU will then have a month-long break over the holiday and will return to action Jan. 14, as it hosts Indiana State for a dual meet. Rounding out the month of January, the teams will travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Relays (Jan. 27-28).
February brings five meets, the first two will be with the team splitting in two Feb. 3-4. One group will compete in the Mayo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and the other group will participate in a meet against Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill. The teams will then travel to Grand Valley in Allendale, Mich., Feb. 10-11. The following weekend, the Redbirds will either compete in the EIU Friday Night Meet (Feb. 17) in Charleston, Ill., or the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational (Feb. 18) in West Lafayette, Ind. ISU will end the month of February in Cedar Falls, Iowa, as they compete in the 2012 MVC Indoor Championships (Feb. 25-26).
March brings an end to the indoor season, as ISU will only compete in two meets. The first will be the Last Chance Meet in Ames, Iowa, March 3. Those that have top marks and times will then have a chance to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
The Redbirds will then go on a two-week hiatus where they will gear up for the 2012 outdoor season. The outdoor season starts March 24, as the teams will compete in the SIU Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill. The following weekend (March 31), ISU will split its team in two and either compete in the EIU Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Ill., or at the Stanford Invite in Stanford, Calif.
April will be a loaded month with five meets. The Redbirds open the month April 7, hosting a dual meet against SIU at the Redbird Track & Field Complex. They will then travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Sea Ray Relays April 11-14. The next weekend brings two meets, one at Louisville (April 20), and the other one at the Vanderbilt Invite, (April 21) in Nashville, Tenn. ISU wraps up the month competing in the Drake Relays (April 25-28), in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Redbirds' post-season meets will begin May 11. Illinois State will compete in the 2012¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships at Wichita, Kan., May 11-13. The NCAA Midwest Regional will be May 25-26, for those who advance past the conference meet.
